It’s been confirmed that the opening two-parter of Doctor Who series 6 is to be set in 1960s America, and will shoot on US soil. More details, plus a short teaser trailer, right here…
It's been announced by the BBC that the next series of Doctor Who, due for broadcast in the spring of next year, will kick-off with a two-part story set in America.
Since the show was revived in 2005, we've not kicked off with a two-parter. Nor has the show shot on American soil. However, Steven Moffat has penned a pair of scripts for a story set in the late 1960s, where the Doctor, Amy and Rory respond to a very secret summons. And, we're told, the journey will then take them from the Utah desert through to the Oval Office at the White House.
Shooting begins on the new series this month, kicking off in Cardiff before heading over to America for further production in the middle of November. We're told too that Alex Kingston is part of the US shoot, returning as River Song.
It demonstrates the growing importance of the show in the US, and as Steven Moffat says, "The Doctor has visited every weird and wonderful planet you can imagine, so he was bound get round to America eventually! And of course every 'Doctor Who' fan will be jumping up and down and saying he's been in America before. But not for real, not on location - and not with a story like this one! Oh, you wait!"
