We passed on some news the other day when Joss Whedon took the time out of his busy schedule to chat about Guardians Of The Galaxy at the Toronto International Film Festival. While at the same festival (where the distribution rights to his latest film, Much Ado About Nothing, were sold), Whedon spoke to 24 Hours Vancouver about The Avengers 2. Here's what he had to say:
“Very talented people are writing and directing these movies, and what I don't want to be is the guy they dread, who's going to come in and say 'Oh, well I have the power to say change this'. I'm not that.”
He went on to offer a hint as to how the film will shape up thematically: “The creation of the team is not the happy ending, it is the beginning of something more complex and difficult, and now I get to dig a little deeper. And maybe, while I'm digging, just twist the knife - and that excites me.”
The above offers little in terms of concrete details, but it does provide the tantalising prospect of stirring the pot and perhaps leading us into Civil War, which frankly, would be brilliant. Reports suggest that Whedon is set to gain more creative control this time around, too.
The Avengers 2 is set for release on the 1st May 2015, and before then, we have four more Marvel movies to look forward to.
