Confirming what we reported yesterday, Warner Bros is indeed pressing ahead with its plan to delay the release of its upcoming movie, Gangster Squad, and to shoot new material for it.
This has come in response to the horrible shootings in Denver last week, and it’s specifically a shoot-out scene in a cinema that’s going to be replaced. The release date is now moving from September 7th in the US, with a January 11th 2013 date now being scheduled.
Appreciating that Warner Bros is caught in a really difficult position here, we can’t help wondering if altering the movie is really the right way to press ahead. But then, given the hysterical nature of some areas of the media over the past week, it’s likely to be damned if it does and damned if it doesn’t.
Once that January 11th date has been confirmed – and Warner Bros has to double check cast availability for reshoots and promotional work - we’ll let you know.
