Max Payne 3

More details for the multiplayer modes of Max Payne 3 have landed, and we’ve got them here…

With a typically strong and stylish Rockstar-penned story, Max Payne 3 may not be a game that needs to jump on the multiplayer bandwagon. That hasn't stopped this third instalment from packing in the content, though, and the more we see of the multiplayer aspect of the game, the more excited we are to finally get our hands on it.

This is the second multiplayer reveal trailer for the game, and it demonstrates even more features, such as the already vaunted ‘Crews' system, which allows players to group together either in public, or via private, customisable groups that can be carried into other Rockstar titles, such as the upcoming GTA V.

Other prominent features showcased here include the Gang Wars game mode, which pitches two gangs against each other in a constantly changing objective-based match, and the Vendetta system that kicks in if you're killed twice by the same person. Once active, Vendetta shows the other players position on the map, and grants bonus XP to you if you nail the kill. If they kill you, however, they get the reward.

The Burst system also sounds intriguing, and when you fill up the burst meter, you can employ a selection of special abilities, such as an instant load out of powerful weapons, a stealthy mode in which you can fool the opposing team into thinking one of your team is on their side, and the ability to make enemies drop fully primed grenades at their feet, with expected results.

It certainly appears as though Max Payne 3 is going to bring it when it comes to online play, and we'll be able to sample the action when the game is released on May 18 for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
