Could another Dukes Of Hazzard movie be on its way?

Eastbound And Down creator Jody Hill's currently writing a proposed reboot of Dukes Of Hazzard. But will Warner Brothers give it the greenlight?

With there being a relatively recent movie version of The Dukes Of Hazzard, it’s surprising to learn that there could be another on the cards, although we appreciate the time between reboots seems to be shortening based on current trends.

The 2005 film earned more than double its budget back, but was widely panned by critics, and from the sounds of things, the potential new version looks as though it will be less overtly comedic than the previous effort, and a little darker.

Eastbound And Down creator Jody Hill is currently writing a script based on an outlaw duo in the American south in the 1970s, and plans for it to be a stylish action movie in the Sam Peckinpah mould, which certainly sounds promising, although those are mighty big shoes for Hill to fill.

The producer of the 2005 Dukes Of Hazzard, Billy Gerber, is set to produce the feature, and once the first draft is complete, Warner Brothers will decide if it wants to rename the lead characters Bo and Luke Duke and make this another Dukes film or simply leave it as a standalone Southern crime movie.

Hill's movie work has received mixed responses, although I’m a fan of Observe And Report, but his TV show Eastbound And Down is quite fantastic, and certainly loved by many. So if he brings the dark humour and characterisation shown there to this project, this could end up being something special.

It will certainly be interesting to see how this develops.
