Sega’s mascot is headed back to the track in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed…
The original Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing was a bit of an underrated gem, and it offered some great karting action, populated by some of Sega's most recognisable faces. Of course, it couldn't hope to compete against Nintendo and the mighty Mario Kart, but it held it's own, and won a large base of fans in the process.
Now Sega is set to bring the anthropomorphic racer back, but this time it's going to feature some transforming gimmickry to help spice up the high octane action. The new game is Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed.
As shown in this announcement trailer, events will take place on all manner of terrain, and whilst in the middle of a race, you'll be able to change your vehicle into a selection of different forms, including car, boat and jet, each with different handling.
Now, we've already seen a similar feature in the Nintendo 3DS's Mario Kart 7, but Sonic's outing looks as though it's going to make much more of this feature, positioning it as a core gameplay element.
Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed will be released on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, 3DS and PS Vita later in the year.
