The 24 movie won’t be shooting this year after all, but there might be more than one of them…
Last week, Kiefer Sutherland gave an interview where he said that the plan with the long-gestating 24 movie was to shoot it in May, in the gap between the actor filming his new TV series, Touch. However, even though a script was apparently in place, there was still no sign of a director, and given how close to the start of shooting the project apparently was, this was something of a cause for concern.
It comes as little surprise, then, to learn that the 24 movie has been put on hold again. Fox decided to delay the film again, even though it was apparently keen on director Antoine Fuqua (Training Day), and was potentially closing in on a deal with him. Now, though, production won’t start this year.
The reasons? Well, unsurprisingly Sutherland’s schedule is part of the problem, with Fox apparently unconvinced that the film can be made in the time available. It’d rather wait than rush. Then there’s budget, with Fox looking to make the film at a cheaper price than its producers wanted.
Sutherland is apparently not best pleased, according to Deadline.
One other nugget that the site dug up was that the screenplay to the 24 film has apparently been put together with three films in mind. Whether that remains the plan we’ll have a clearer idea of next year.
For now, Jack Bauer can have a well-deserved year off from saving the world…
