Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2 may not mark the end of the Twilight cinematic franchise after all...

With Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 1 arriving on DVD and Blu-ray in March, and Breaking Dawn Part 2 heading for cinemas in November, that was supposed to be that as far as the Twilight movie franchise was concerned. After all, they’re out of Stephanie Meyer novels to adapt for the big screen, and to all intents and purposes, the movies were done and dusted.

But are they?

Last week, Lionsgate agreed a deal to buy Summit Entertainment, the company that’s produced and distributed the Twilight movies. And Jon Feltheimer, the president of Lionsgate, has broadly hinted that there may be more Twilight on the horizon.

“It's hard for me to imagine a movie that does $700 million-plus doesn't have ongoing value”, he told the Los Angeles Times. Asked whether the Twilight saga would continue, he said that “It's an amazing franchise that they have done a great job of maintaining with absolutely no deterioration. So the simple answer is 'Boy I hope so.'”

One possible extension of the Twilight saga is on the small screen, once the films are done. Lionsgate has a television side to its business, and if movie sequels aren’t forthcoming, don’t rule out a TV show.
