Ti West’s next film will see him make a slight departure from out and out horror as he tackles sci-fi. And he's recruited Liv Tyler, too...
Liv Tyler, it has been revealed, has signed up to star in the next film by Ti West, The Side Effect. Tyler will play Catherine Rigby a woman who is involved in an experimental space programme that finds her spending several months alone in space as research for a pharmaceutical company. Whilst alone in space, she suffers from a side effect (always read the label, kids) and finds out that she has become pregnant. Struggling to find the truth behind the conception paranoia mounts as she remains alone in space and seemingly far from the truth.
It sounds like a really interesting premise and based on the strength of West’s previous works this is one that I’ll certainly be checking out.
It’s great to see that West is able to draw a star of the calibre of Tyler this early in his career and the star certainly seems impressed with the director’s work to date, saying of West:
“(he’s)a super-talented exciting young filmmaker. The role of Rigby is a fantastic character within a great thriller and I am looking forward to sinking my teeth into the part.”
West himself says of the project:
“Although it is still somewhat of a horror film, it is much more psychological than any of my previous efforts, It was essential that I find an actress who could portray a wide range of emotion and always earn the audience’s sympathy no matter what the situation. As soon as I sat down with Liv, it was obvious she was the one.”
No news on when the film will shoot, nor of a provisional release date. More on The Side Effect when we get it.
