Akiva Schaffer’s feature length directorial debut Hot Rod is one of the finest comedies in recent years, an underrated gem that I’d highly recommend anyone seeking out. Thus, news of his latest project, featuring some highly talented comedic actors, is very welcome indeed.
The film in question is Neighbourhood Watch, which has finished shooting recently, and is expected to be released on 27th July 2012. It follows a group of suburban dads who form a neighbourhood watch group to escape their families, but soon find themselves in over their heads when they discover a plot to destroy the earth.
Moving away from working with his Lonely Island buddies Andy Samberg and Jorma Tacome, Schaffer’s cast includes Richard Ayoade, Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn and Jonah Hill. The prospect of their comedy styles complementing and playing off against each other is really quite exciting.
