Over the weekend, it was suggested that Benicio Del Toro was being lined up to play Khan in the Star Trek sequel. Not true, says JJ Abrams...

Just before the weekend, the folks at Latino Review broke the story that they knew exactly who Benicio Del Toro was set to play in JJ Abrams’ Star Trek sequel. It was revealed a month or so back that Del Toro was in line for a villain role in the film, although he still hasn’t officially signed on the dotted line, from what we’ve heard. Expect that to be just a matter of time, though.

But what kind of villain will Del Toro be? Well, according to Latino Review, he’s set to play Khan, as previously played by the late Ricardo Montalban. “Expect rebuttals and denials”, says the article on the site. Well, they didn’t take long to come.

Specifically, over at Hitfix, JJ Abrams has responded to the rumour that Del Toro is playing Khan, by saying, simply, “Not true”. That’s all he said, but then, that’s all he needs to say.

We wait and see how all of this pans out, and just who Del Toro turns out to be. It looks like Latino Review is standing by its story, though.

Shooting is set to start on the new Star Trek film next month, ahead of its release on May 17th 2013.
