Spooky questions are posed in a brief yet intriguing promo clip for Paranormal Activity 2…
To the uninitiated, this blink and you'll miss it clip will look like a particularly dull deleted scene from You've Been Framed. For those who saw the first Paranormal Activity, meanwhile, this apparently innocent snippet of footage will have a greater significance.
For one thing, it appears to confirm that Katie Featherston, the first film's star, will be returning for Paranormal Activity 2, going some way to allay fears that the sequel would bear little relation to its predecessor.
Second, the clip poses the question many people will have been thinking at the close of Paranormal Activity: "Where's Micah?" Micah Sloat was Katie's boyfriend in the first film, the one responsible for capturing the film's ghostly events, and who met an uncertain fate at its conclusion.
Katie's response to the question is evasive, and poses a further conundrum. Do Paranormal Activity 2's events follow on directly from those of the first film, or come before them? Is that Katie's baby? Who's the woman holding the camera?
And most importantly of all, can Tod Williams, who replaces Oren Peli as director, create a film as hair-raisingly scary as the first?
Paranormal Activity 2 floats into cinemas on 22 October.
