The Muppets

The Muppets are heading back to the big screen next year. And they’ve recruited a few humans to go with them…

If you've detected some hints of Muppet love around the site over the past few months, then your radar is, indeed, finely tuned. Jim Henson's finest creations have no shortage of fans around these parts, and the news that the Muppets would be getting a brand new cinematically-released film has thus been really quite enthusiastically received. That's the tempered and mature version of our reaction to it.

Granted, it's got to stomp its way over the corpse of Muppets From Space (the director of which, Tim Hill, has gone on to make the Alvin And The Chipmunks, as well as next Easter's Hop), but the signs from the project have been positive. Jason Segel has penned the script (along with Nicholas Stoller) and is starring, and James Bobin (Flight Of The Conchords) has been hired to direct.

And now the rest of the cast is falling into place, too. Amy Adams is reportedly to be signing up, which would be a marvellous call in our view. Furthermore, The Hollywood Reporter is now suggesting that Chris Cooper is likely to sign up to play the film's villain, while Rashida Jones is set to join up an be a television executive in the film.

You can read more at The Hollywood Reporter here. And let the countdown begin for the return of the Muppets to the big screen at Christmas 2011!
