Could Joaquin Phoenix, now that he’s officially sane again, be lining up alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in Clint Eastwood’s J Edgar Hoover movie?

Now that it's been confirmed that Joaquin Phoenix isn't actually batshit crazy, and he was just exacting a hoax on the movie-going world, it looks like it might just be business as usual. And, after committing two years to Casey Affleck's not-a-documentary I'm Still Here, the actor has had a shave, and is being linked with other roles.

And the first high profile one to which he's been linked? A part in Clint Eastwood's next project, Hoover. This is the movie that's reportedly going to see Leonardo DiCaprio playing one-time director of the FBI, J. Edgar Hoover, although reports suggest that he's not yet signed on the dotted line (he has talked about the role, though, and we'd be surprised if he didn't do it).

So, where does Phoenix fit in? Well, Vulture is reporting that the actor is the top choice to play Hoover's lover and protégé, Clyde Tolson. The site reports that, as soon as DiCaprio closes his deal to star in the film, the offer will go out to Phoenix.

Vulture does speculate, and there would appear to be something in it, that it's the possibility of starring in Eastwood's movie that may have kickstarted the process of Casey Affleck coming clean about Phoenix's last couple of years. Whether that's true or not, it does seem that he might just be on the verge of getting a major role, and one that has ‘awards season' written right across it.
