Some familiar faces join up once more with director Tim Burton as he puts together his full-length feature of Frankenweenie…
Chalk this up as one movie we're desperately keen to see. Frankenweenie sees director Tim Burton going back near his roots once more, with his latest stop-motion animated project. It's a full length version of one of his earlier short film, telling the story of a boy who, after his dog gets hit by a car, decides to reanimate it.
Tim Burton is, of course, something of a genius on his day. Yet, it's been a while since we've seen a film that's coming anywhere near close to his work in the 80s and first half of the 90s. Granted, if we'd made anything anywhere near as good as his best film, the superb Ed Wood, we could shuffle off this earth happy. But the thought of a full-length feature of Frankenweenie does open up hopes that the man will be back to his very best.
Deadline is now reporting too that he's gone back to some of his earlier films to round up the voice cast for the film. Thus, Winona Ryder (Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands), Martin Landau (Ed Wood), Martin Short (Mars Attacks!) and Catherine O'Hara (Beetlejuice, The Nightmare Before Christmas) have all signed up to the project.
Frankenweenie is shooting in the UK even as you read these words (assuming you're not reading them years in the future or anything wacky like that), but you're going to have to wait until March 9th 2012 to see the finished project. Fingers crossed that it's worth the wait...
