The mysterious new movie from JJ Abrams, Super 8, has begun filming. So what do we know about it thus far?
The new, mysterious film from Mr JJ Abrams, Super 8, has started filming, Paramount Pictures had confirmed. Super 8, you may remember, is the film that was trailed before US screenings of Iron Man 2 earlier in the year, and up until that point, its mere existence was barely known of.
Since then, with the aid of Comic-Con too, Super 8's profile has risen substantially, even if the question of what it's actually about remains up in the air.
Here's what we know. Abrams has penned the script as well as directing the film. It's set in 1979, and Abrams has confirmed that it's going to be keeping with the feel of Steven Spielberg's science -fiction movies of the late 70s and 1980s. Spielberg himself is one of the producers on the film.
The cast has been locked in place, meanwhile. Kyle Chandler of the Friday Night Lights TV show, Elle Fanning, Ron Eldard, Noah Emmerich, Joel Courtney, Riley Griffiths, Ryan Lee, Zach Mills and Gabriel Basso are rounding out the company of actors. (It's probably fair to assume that most of the lead roles here are male, then, unless Abrams has something else up his sleeve.)
We also know that the film itself is set for release next summer. And that's roughly it to date. We'd imagine the shoot is going to keep Abrams busy for the next month or two, but also suspect we might get a few stills in the weeks ahead to whet our appetite further.
