If Fox was looking for an empty news day to reveal its choice of director for X-Men: Days Of Future past, the sequel to X-Men: First Class, then it was out of luck. The Internet was happily exploding with the news that Lucasfilm had been sold to Disney, and that a new Star Wars movie was coming, when it made its announcement.
It’s a logical and welcome announcement, though. Bryan Singer, he who directed X-Men and X2, has signed up to direct X-Men: Days Of Future Past, as had been expected. Had scheduling allowed, he was in line to direct First Class, too, and this time he’s swapping roles with Matthew Vaughn. Singer produced First Class, which Vaughn directed. This time, Vaughn is on producer duties.
The film is set for release on July 18th 2014.
