Reports suggest that a brand new Timecop movie is in the works – but that Jean-Claude Van Damme will not be involved.
Searching the back catalogues for a property to reboot, Universal Pictures - according to reports circulating over the past day or two - appears to have arrived at the Jean-Claude Van Damme actioner, Timecop.
The original was, in our view at least, a hoot, and it's to date (and let's face it, short of getting the call for Expendables 2, the following fact isn't under threat) the highest grossing film of Van Damme's career.
However, Van Damme is not and will not be involved in any future Timecop movie. Currently under the working title Timecop 2.0, the new film is apparently planned for release in the next 12 to 18 months. And according to the site What's Playing over in Australia, "The studio have [sic] been developing the pic for four years now. Uni are envisioning a big-budget science-fiction blockbuster with a major star."
Firmer details than that aren't currently available, although word about a new Timecop project is nothing new. It's been one of those projects that appears to have been mooted for many years now. We'll no doubt find out in the upcoming months if this latest attempt to get the movie kick-started has more luck...
