Well, our guessing is that you can scrub any hopes of seeing a James Cameron-directed take on Battle Angel for a good few more years. The director's slate was already looking jammed for the next three or four years or so with at least two more Avatar films next on his radar. And it's just been announced which project he'll be moving onto once he's done with that.
Lightstorm Entertainment, Cameron's company, has picked up the rights to the book The Informationist, by Taylor Stevens. It's a story with a strong female lead character, in this case an information specialist who's hired to track down a billionaire's daughter, uncovering her past as she does so.
The book has been acquired as a new directorial project for Cameron, and the next stage will be to get a screenwriter on board to adapt the story.
As thing stand, Cameron's set to have Avatar 2 in cinemas for 2015, with Avatar 3 the year after. That suggests that the earliest we'll see The Informationist is in 2016. Assuming Avatar 4 doesn't press ahead after that, that means Battle Angel, if it happens, is coming no sooner than 2018. That seems a long, long time away...
