Without a doubt one of the quirkiest horror titles released thus far, Deadly Premonition is a game that divides and much as it conquers, and whilst some have sidelined the game as a clunky, ill-conceived and confusing mess, a large following has showered it with praise.
The third person survival-horror release from Rising Star, currently exclusive to the Xbox 360, is a very odd title, littered with poorly recorded and translated voice acting, stodgy controls that make classic Resident Evil titles look silky smooth, and a central character that’s just plain bonkers. Despite this, though, the game, in this writer’s opinion, is actually very good, and now it seems as though a larger audience will get to make their own minds up as it’s been announced that a Director’s Cut will arrive on PS3 in the first quarter of 2013.
The Director’s Cut will feature upgraded visuals, various tweaks and fixes to improve the overall game, along with a new scenario and the promise of DLC to further expand the story.
The chance to replay the game with better controls (especially the awful vehicle handling) and some fine tuning will certainly be very welcome. As much as I appreciated the Xbox 360 incarnation, even the most loyal fan can’t argue that the game needs some basic maintenance. Whether or not the additions and tweaks will reach the Xbox version, either via DLC or a re-release is no known, but no doubt existing fans would welcome the new content, so there’s always a chance.
