NBC and Sky Living’s Dracula series has bagged a showrunner in the form of Carnivàle’s Dan Knauf…

This is a promising development by anyone’s standards. The creator of HBO’s creepy, critically acclaimed series Carnivàle, which was cut short in its second season in 2005, has joined NBC and Sky Living’s forthcoming Dracula series as showrunner.

Dan Knauf will be taking on head writer duties for Dracula, which is to star Jonathan Rhys Meyers in the title role. Since Carnivàle, Knauf has honed his talent writing and producing on Spartacus: Blood And Sand, hostage drama Standoff, and 2009 comic-adaptation miniseries The Phantom.

This new take on Dracula has the Count posing as a US entrepreneur in Victorian London whilst planning to avenge past wrongs. The series comes based on what Sky has described as a “dark, twisted and intelligent” script by comic book writer Cole Haddon (The Strange Case Of Mr Hyde) and is due to go into production later this year. Consider our interest piqued.
