There’s a while to go yet before cameras start rolling on the new Captain America movie, given that Captain America: The Winter Soldier isn’t set to start shooting until March next year. But already, the cast is sliding into place.
We know that Chris Evans is reprising the role of Captain America, as you might expect, but it’s already been announced too that Anthony Mackie is appearing in the film. Mackie has been confirmed in the role of Sam Wilson, better known as The Falcon.
On promotional duties for his incoming movie, 10 Years, Newsday asked Mackie for a few more details. He reaffirmed that “I’m playing The Falcon”, going on to explain that “he’s this guy in Harlem who moved to California and became a drug dealer. His plane crashed, and he was genetically altered, and he can fly, has telepathic powers”.
He added that “He's the first African-American superhero. It makes me feel all the work I've done has been paying off. I have a son, nephews and nieces, and I love the idea that they can dress up as The Falcon on Halloween. They now have someone they can idolize. That's a huge honour for me”.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier is set for release in the summer of 2014.
