We know when the Wii U is coming, and now we know that it’s going to get Call of Duty: Black Ops 2…

The Wii U has been officially anchored into its release date, along with some launch titles, and Activision has further fanned Nintendo fans’ burning flames of anticipation with the announcement that Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is coming to Ninty’s new platform.

The upcoming, annual Call of Duty release is the first of the series to ditch the more traditional historical and contemporary settings in favour of a futuristic theme, and it will follow on from the events seen in, unsurprisingly, Call of Duty: Black Ops.

Black Ops 2 for the Wii U was announced during Nintendo’s event, and it’ll apparently deliver the full HD Black Ops 2, complete with 60 frames per second. It’ll also make use of the Wii U’s unique controller, allowing two local players to each have their own, separate screen.

With many a naysayer already sidelining the Wii U, the arrival of perhaps the biggest franchise in gaming so early on is going to be a big boost to the new machine, although I do find it difficult to see it pulling punters away from their beloved PS3s and 360s. Still, it’ll lend more gravitas to Nintendo’s new, big push at the very least.
