While Michael Bay puts the finishing touches to his next film, Pain And Gain, the pieces are starting to slide together for his fourth and apparently final entry in the Transformers movie franchise (the films will continue, just under a different director).
Still under the working title Transformers 4, the film has a release date of June 27th 2014. And, according to Brian Goldner of Hasbro, there's another reason why things are being changed around ths time. After all, there's no Shia LaBeouf for starters, which is already suggesting a different narrative direction.
But it's not just Shia who's missing. Apparently, in spite of the box office success of Transformers: Dark Of The Moon (it's the fifth biggest film of all time at the worldwide box office), it didn't sell the number of toys that Hasbro was expecting and hoping for. As Goldner said, "this is why Transformers 4 will have a new cast of [robot] characters, and it will be a story revolving around these characters".
So: the reason why the film will have new Transformers in it won't be because the story demands or dictates it, rather that Hasbro has a few more toys to sell? Or is that us being just a little bit picky?
We'll find out in the summer of 2014...
