Based on a true story, Christian Bale, Mark Wahlberg and Amy Adams star in David O Russell’s The Fighter. Here’s the first trailer for it too…
Fancy a bit of boxing? The Fighter is a new film that stars Mark Wahlberg as a man who, by the look of this new trailer, has to fight for a living. Then he decides he can't fight anymore, after having a crisis of confidence. Then he decides to fight again. He has issues with his brother. And then, we might be going out on a limb here, we're going to head somewhere in the direction of an uplifting ending, after having one last chance. That's not us spoilering you, by the way. That's us guessing.
Actually, it's not too tricky to find out the real story, given that this is a film based on the life of the boxer Micky Ward. And The Fighter looks more interesting for the inclusion of the wonderful Amy Adams and Christian Bale in the cast. Plus, it does seem to have got Mark Wahlberg on one of his better days here, following up from his fun performance in The Other Guys.
Then there's David O Russell behind the camera. The same David O Russell who directed the terrific mix of Three Kings, I Heart Huckabees, Flirting With Disaster and Spanking The Monkey. That's some pedigree right there.
The first trailer for The Fighter is with us, anyway, and it does seem to be playing things up for a bit of a run at the Oscars (or is it just us who thinks that?). The film itself arrives on 10th December in the US, although us poor souls in the UK have to wait until 4th February next year.
Here's the trailer, anyway...
