Andrew Garfield : Spider-Man

The brand new webslinger, Mr Andrew Garfield, chatters a bit more about the upcoming Spider-Man reboot

Andrew Garfield has been nattering again, as you might expect, about his upcoming role of a lifetime as he dons the suit of Spider-Man. Garfield is set to start shooting the film in a few months time, ahead of the rebooted franchise's appearance back in cinemas in the summer of 2012.

In a chat with The Associated Press, Garfield firstly reiterates that he's been a fan of the character since his childhood (which, to be fair, wasn't actually that long ago!). And when pressed on what he thought the appeal of Peter Parker was, he had the following to say:

"His youth, his relatability, his struggle. He was just this skinny boy. He was a skinny boy who felt stronger on the inside than he looked on the outside, and I related to it immediately, and it stayed with me as I grew up.

"Every single generation of the comic, the cartoons and the movies, it all means a great deal to me. It was always something that gave me hope as a skinny little kid whose sense of injustice about the world didn't match his sense of strength about his body. I found it so inspiring and uplifting and reassuring. To be a part of that mythology and that legacy is a true honor."

Garfield was talking as part of the promotional work on his upcoming movie, the reportedly brilliant Never Let Me Go, which also stars Carey Mulligan. Mulligan says of Garfield as Spider-Man, "I think it'll be like what Heath Ledger did with the Joker ... Andrew, he has no other way of working other than doing things with complete truth."

Garfield's training regime for the movie is about to begin. Truthfully, it's firmer details of the film itself that we're interested in. We know that Marc Webb is directing, and we know that Hilary Duff was linked with a role in the movie. Yet, we're intrigued to see who the villain is going to be, and where Sony is heading with the rest of the casting for the film.

We'll keep you posted on all of that. And in the meantime, here's the piece over at The Associated Press.
