At the unwieldy acronym of the MGEITF (or 'Edinburgh TV Festival' for short), the Horrible Histories masterclass yielded several tantalising titbits.
First of all we had Simon Farnaby (with his hair like a cross between Tom Baker and a badger), Martha Howe-Douglas' reaction to host Al Murray's insistance that she is the definitive screen Elizabeth I, and historical consultant ('Fact sieve' and 'tyrannical pedant' ) Greg Jenner trying not to rise to Murray's bait.
Mainly, though, we had Producer Caroline Norris detailing the production process and revealing a couple of exciting possibilities. These are all yet to be confirmed, so we will leave it vague as to who the Charles Dickens song will be sung in the style of.
Most intriguingly, discussions are underway for a movie version.
Due to the American involvement, there are rights issues. However, there were rights issues when it came to making the TV version, and these were overcome. After referencing the stoning scene in Life of Brian as a crucial influence for the series, Norris hopes that Horrible Histories can make a Pythonesque leap from popular sketch show to cinematic fixture.
