I think it's safe to say there's a fair amount of scepticism about the Evil Dead remake, but the involvement of Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell should go some way to appeasing fans of the original series. Plus there's an Oscar-winning screenwriter on board, in the form of Diablo Cody, and a promising director – Fede Alvarez – which should indicate that this will be worth a look.
While promoting The Possession, Sam Raimi has been talking about the upcoming Evil Dead remake. "It’s really bloody. It’s so bloody, it will make your head spin", he confirmed. "I’ve seen almost all the dailies and they’re really going for it. It’s gonna be grisly and intense and non-stop. Definitely R. Maybe worse."
I would imagine that it would take a lot for the film to get an NC-17 rating, certainly based on gore and violence alone. Unless the film features sexual violence, which is somewhat unlikely, even considering a certain scene in the original.
