We've not read the script for the RoboCop remake/reboot that was doing the rounds earlier this week, so can't really comment on the swathe of negativity that suddenly get launched in the direction of the project. We do still, to our surprise, remain cautiously optimistic about the film, though, but that's given the pedigree of those who are involved in it.
Jose Padilha appears to be a fine choice of director, and the cast thus far includes Joel Kinnamon, Gary Oldman, Samuel L Jackson, Abbie Cornish Jackie Earle Haley, Hugh Laurie, Jay Baruchel and Jennifer Ehle. That strikes us as quite a company of acting talent, and the new face that's just been added does nothing to dampen our interest.
Marianne Jean-Baptiste is the latest to join the film, and she's set to play the chief of police in the movie, who goes by the name of Karen Dean. While it's been the series Without A Trace that's given Jean-Baptiste the highest profile of late, we can never forget her superb, Oscar-nominated turn in Mike Leigh's excellent Secrets And Lies.
RoboCop is heading into production shortly, ahead of its release in August 2013. And we'll keep you posted as we hear more about it.
