No stranger to the joys of shotgunning a zombie’s head clean off from a first person viewpoint, Activision is keen to get even further in on the zombie-mashing craze that doesn’t seem to want to end in the world of gaming.
Not content with the popular zombie modes found in the various iterations of Call of Duty, the publisher has a Walking Dead FPS project under way. The game, which will take place before the original series/comics will put players in the role of Daryl, as he and his brother Merle make their way to the ill-fated city of Atlanta.
The game will feature a heavy lean towards a more tactical, survival approach, with limited ammo and recourses, and will feature the choice to tackle the undead with gusto, or to stick to the silent, softly, softly, resource-saving approach.
Under development by Terminal Reality, it’s a sure fire bet that the game will instantly be compared to Left 4 Dead, Dead Island and other zombie titles, but if done correctly, The Walking Dead could be a more strategic and tense zombie shooter, that would surely stand out from the crowd. It’s certainly got the big name license, along with established story and characters to help it along, rather than the generic heroes seen in competing games, so we’ll have to wait and see if this is the ultimate zombie-slayer, or simply a cash in on a big name.
