Peter Jackson confirms that principal photography is finally done on his upcoming pair of The Hobbit movies...

For the past 266 days, Peter Jackson, along with his cast and crew, have been hard at work shooting both The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: There And Back Again. His return to Middle Earth sees some returning faces, such as Sir Ian McKellen and Gollum, with new members of the cast led by Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins.

And the long shoot for the films seems to be finally over. Jackson has posted on Facebook the following:

"We made it! Shoot day 266 and the end of principal photography on The Hobbit. Thanks to our fantastic cast and crew for getting us this far, and to all of you for your support! Next stop, the cutting room. Oh, and Comic Con!"

There's still likely to be some reshoot and pick-up work, but the bulk of the film is now in the proverbial can.

As an aside, we wonder if a trailer for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, might turn up in the next week or so (to tie into Comic-Con), ahead of the film's release this coming December? When one appears, we'll bring it your way...
