It seems like forever since Neill Blomkamp’s feature length debut, District 9, wowed audiences and became a surprise hit. Needless to say, we've been keen to see just how he follows it up. An end to the wait is on the horizon as Elysium is set to hit cinemas on 1st March 2013, and ahead of it being featured at next week’s Comic-Con, here’s the first official image of Matt Damon, with no hair and wielding a bloody great gun, in the film:
Blomkamp has largely surrounded the project in secrecy but we do have the following synopsis to go on: In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster), a hard line government official, will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (Matt Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.
So it sounds as though it’ll have a similar feel to District 9, but that’s by no means a bad thing.
