Yesterday, we reported that Men In Black 3 had become the highest grossing film of that particular franchise, meaning that Sony had won its gamble to resurrect the series, ten years after it had last been seen on cinema screens. This, as we've suggested before, is likely to have given the studio a fair degree of extra confidence in its Ghostbusters 3 project, a film that's been chattered about for a long time, with no sign of movement.
It's been Dan Aykroyd who's been the cheerleader for the project, while Bill Murray makes the occasional comment generally suggesting disinterest (but not quite ever shutting the door). Now, it seems, more work is being done on the Ghostbusters 3 script, which suggests that there's still definite interest in getting the film made.
An update appeared over at WIVB, where there's a report of a signing event that Dan Aykroyd attended over the weekend. And when asked about the latest on Ghostbusters 3? Well, he said "We've got a new writing staff working on it now. It's got to be perfect. That's the whole thing. There's no point in doing it unless it's perfect. So that's what we're up to now."
Ghostbusters 3 is not much further ahead, then, but still alive. We'll keep you posted. The person who bet us five quid the film would never happen a year or two back though must be feeling really quite confident...
