Just a little something this, and absolutely still at the rumour stage, but fans at the Margam Country Park set where filming is currently taking place on Doctor Who season 7 seem to think they’ve overheard the name of the new companion. That name? Clara.
What can that tell us? Not much, admittedly, though it does sound human, and would fit with the ‘is she from history’ line of thinking that’s cropped up in recent weeks. A nineteenth-century companion, perhaps?
Clara - as fans have been quick to point out - is also the middle name of the much-missed Elisabeth Sladen, whose death a little over a year ago may be being commemorated in the new companion. A fitting tribute, if so.
What’s in a name? Of the new Who companions, have Rose, Martha, Donna, or Amy’s names been of great significance to their characters? River Song/Melody Pond was a riddle waiting to be solved, so there may be more to Clara (if that is indeed what she’s called) yet…
