CBS has just chucked out a few character and story crumbs about its upcoming Sherlock Holmes modernisation, and we’ve hoovered them up for you below. If you’d prefer to approach the new show crumb-free, why not have a little look at this picture of a dog in a deerstalker while the rest of us have a bit of a chat?
Right, so the news is that Johnny Lee Miller’s Sherlock will be a recovering addict who’s escaped to New York after a “fall from grace in London and a stint in rehab”. Once in Manhattan, “his wealthy father forces him to live with his worst nightmare – a sober companion, Dr Watson”, played by Lucy Liu. So it looks as though Elementary is planning to kick off the Holmes/Watson dynamic with a doctor/patient vibe, as Joan is tasked with treating Sherlock for his addiction (to what, specifically, we’re not yet sure).
Dr Joan Watson isn’t without her own problems though, she’s “a successful surgeon until she lost a patient and her license three years ago”, who views her addiction-treatment work as “a penance” for her past mistake. “Watson has no choice but to accompany her irascible new charge on his jobs. But Sherlock finds her medical background helpful, and Watson realises she has a knack for playing investigator”, the press release continues.
Aidan Quinn’s role has been confirmed as that of New York cop Captain Gregson, who encounters Holmes working as a police consultant. There’s no news yet on whether Mycroft or Moriarty are to make an appearance, though the prospect of Holmes’ “wealthy father” calling the shots is an interesting one, don’t you think?
