PES 2013

Konami’s latest alternative to the EA giant is coming, as PES 2013 gets a debut trailer…

Sporting a digitised Cristiano Ronaldo as its front man this year, PES 2013, or Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 if you dislike acronyms, is going to have to pull out the stops to topple the excellent FIFA 12, a game that, according to many, has firmly placed EA on the football top spot once more.

Konami knows this, and is going to cram in all manner of refinements to restore the series as the top dog of the beautiful game. Amongst these new features are ‘PES FullControl', which is a system that should enable a much greater level of control over the ball. Incoming passes can be handled in a number of ways now, ranging from using the ball's momentum to sneak past opposing players as well as the ability to stop the ball dead.

The passing and shooting system has been suitably tweaked to allow a greater level of control over the ball's trajectory, and dribbling has been slowed down somewhat to allow for more tactical, and carefully thought out play, and an even high level of control.

Defending, an area where FIFA 12 spent much of its time tweaking, has also been reworked a little, and defenders can now attempt to slow down attackers, and are granted much more freedom when tackling.

PES 2013 will also feature the ‘Player ID' system. This will endow each in-game player with a much more lifelike resemblance to their real-life counterparts, not only encompassing skills and attributes, but also their physical movements, such as running, shooting and, of course, goal celebrations. This traits will also extend to goalkeepers, who are getting much more love this time, with new animations and play styles, as well as improved AI.

This AI, called ‘ProActive AI' also extends to the rest of the players, and Konami claims that it's worked hard to eliminate the issues noted by series fans, and has managed to produce a perfectly well-rounded experience.

It certainly appears as though Konami has listened to fans, and has tried to address the various issues found with the recent outings, which have seen the franchise fall from grace to a degree. Will PES 2013 rectify these failings? We'll find out when the game arrives. For now, have a look at Ronaldo, showing off as only he can.
