So then: the director's chair on Catching Fire.
Last week, we were hearing of a shortlist that included David Cronenberg and Alfonsuo Cuaron. This week? The names of Francis Lawrence and Bennett Miller came into the frame. And now? It seems that Lionsgate has chosen who it wants to direct the next The Hunger Games movie, Catching Fire.
Francis Lawrence appears to be their man. His resume includes the likes of I Am Legend, Constantine and Water For Elephants, and he’ll take over the director’s chair that Gary Ross vacated. The Hollywood Reporter says that the choice came down to him and Moneyball director Miller, with Lawrence getting the nod.
Interestingly, it also noted that Moon and Source Code helmer Duncan Jones was apparently on the shortlist.
Assuming the deal is concluded quickly, production is set to start on Catching Fire later this year, ahead of its release in November 2013.
