The third and final movie in Christopher Nolan’s Bat triptych gets its US film classification, and it’s not an unexpected one…

Given that Christopher Nolan’s previous Batman movies both earned a PG-13 rating in the US – and it’s fair to say that The Dark Knight pushed the boundaries of that classification somewhat – it seems natural that the third and final movie in his trilogy should get the same rating. Having seen and read a little about what The Dark Knight Rises contains, however – namely, Batman meeting his nemesis, Bane – there may have been some fans of the comic books who were half expecting the movie to series to go darker still. But no.

In line with most people’s expectations, The Dark Knight Rises has been given a PG-13 rating by the MPAA, which cites “intense sequences of violence and action, some sensuality, and language” as the basis for its classification. Anyone expecting something even more violent and intense than The Dark Knight will be mildly disappointed, it seems, but then again, we can all be thankful that the final Nolan movie won’t be a watered-down PG either.
