The classic that started it all, the original Fallout, can be grabbed for free, but only for a short time…
Retro gaming site, Good Old Games, is offering visitors a free download of the original Fallout game. This limited time offer, which is good through to April 8, allows people to download the game in its entirety, no strings attached, as long as you have a GOG account, of course.
Fallout is certainly better known to many in its FPS/RPG hybrid guise of Fallout 3 and New Vegas, but veteran gamers will fondly remember the original games from Black Isle/Interplay.
These games were 2D, isometric outings that focused much more on tactical, turn-based combat, similar to, but a little more dynamic than the classic X-Com series. You still ventured in and out of vaults, and roamed the irradiated wasteland, but the characters, challenging tactical combat and puzzles made for a very different experience than Betheda's reworking of the license, and one that many hardcore fans believe is superior the new entries in the series.
Fallout is a true classic, and one that everyone really should try. And, now it's free, there's no excuse not to download it and fire it up.
