Sony is going to give PlayStation Home a boost with some free-to-play games…
It's not really a stretch to say that PlayStaiton Home hasn't been the roaring success Sony probably imagined at its inception. Although it's certainly quite impressive, and the mixture of social networking, mini-games, and shopping does hold a strange sort of appeal, I'm willing to bet that most of the PS3 owners you know don't use it.
Aside from sluggish load times, glitchy content (especially some third party game-themed worlds) and overpriced doodads, there's an awful lot of trolling to be found, which puts a lot of users off. What the service needs is a shot in the arm, something to entice new users, and those who don't really care for sitting around the Star Wars cantina wearing a pink afro and pimp suit. Well, Sony may have just that boost, and it's announced a series of new, free-to-play games for the service, one of which is already available.
Cutthroats: Battle for Black Powder launched on March 28 and lets players transmute their avatars into pirates, able to man a galleon's cannons to do battle with other players.
No Mans Land will be released in the spring, and will be a shooter with a post-apocalyptic theme. Finally, there's Mercia, perhaps the most ambitious of the three. This will me a single or multiplayer RPG, complete with full RPG mechanics, looting and a rich world to explore.
PlayStation Home's re-launch last November bestowed new features to the service, along with new areas to explore, and it's good to see that fans of Home are getting a steady stream of new content, including more free-to-play titles.
