Rumours may abound, but Microsoft isn’t rushing to talk about the next Xbox…
The Internet has been all aglow of late with rumours about Microsoft's next Xbox. Chief amongst these has been the rumour that the next console won't sport an optical disc drive. It's also been widely rumoured that the next Xbox will be officially announced at this year's E3.
Well, that's just not going to happen we're afraid, and Microsoft has hammered that rusty nail firmly into the coffin with an official statement sent out via email that reads:
"While we appreciate all the interest in our long-range plans for the future, we can confirm that there will be no talk of new Xbox hardware at E3 or anytime soon,"
"For us, 2012 is all about Xbox 360 - and it's the best year ever for Xbox 360. The console is coming off its biggest year ever-a year in which Xbox outsold all other consoles worldwide."
Well, that's that then. So, unless this is a total out-and-out lie designed to enable a show-stopping surprise reveal at the trade show, we'll have to wait some time for any official news about the next Microsoft platform. Never mind though, at least we'll have the Wii U...
