Scarlett Johannson joins an impressive cast, set to tell the story of the making of Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho...
After the 1998 remake of Psycho proved to be something of a waste of time you could be forgiven to be sceptical about someone tackling the material again. Yet whilst there is another project about Hitchcock’s masterpiece on the cards, it won’t be a scene for scene remake like Gus Van Sant’s effort.
Instead, it will focus on the making of the film and will carry the rather unwieldy title of Alfred Hitchcock And The Making Of Psycho. I’d imagine it would be hard to claim you didn’t know what you were getting with a title like that.
Poor title aside, the film has one hell of a team assembled. It will be directed by Sacha Gervasi, who helmed the excellent Anvil! The Story of Anvil, and it's scripted by John McLaughlin (Black Swan), based on the non-fiction book by Stephen Rebello. In front of the camera, Anthony Hopkins will play Hitchcock and Helen Mirren will play Alma Reville, the filmmaker's wife. And now, Scarlett Johannson has just signed on to play Janet Leigh.
The film will follow the director at the top of his game setting out to make a horror film that no studio would touch. Of course, the end result is regarded as not just one of the finest films of its genre but one of the most significant films of all time, so it will be interesting to see how the story of its making will be portrayed on screen. With talent like this involved though, you’d imagine that it will do quite well at whatever awards season it’s eligible for.
More on the film when we get it.
