A sequel to 2010’s action thriller Salt has been on the cards for some time now, but Salt 2 doesn't seem a great deal closer...
Personally, I found Salt to be a hugely enjoyable action thriller. It had its flaws but compared with some of the films of its kind released in recent years, it holds up well. Given the way the first film ended and how successful it was at the worldwide box office, it’s hardly surprising that Columbia was keen on a sequel.
Kurt Wimmer, writer of the first movie, has been hard at work on a script for some time now, but sadly, we now hear that it hasn’t met the standards of the film’s star, Angelina Jolie. She's reported to have passed on the script. With this being the case, Columbia has asked Wimmer to have another go, and see if he can produce something that Jolie will agree to.
Whilst I’m sure it’s frustrating for Wimmer and Columbia, it’s pleasing to see that Jolie isn’t signing off on something that she doesn’t believe in. After all, she hasn’t been seen on cinema screens since 2010 when Salt and the rather lacklustre The Tourist were released.
