Assassin's Creed III

The rumours can be laid to rest. Assassin’s Creed III’s era has been confirmed…

Early this morning, Kotaku posted that one of its readers (a Best Buy employee) had sent in what appeared to be some official box art for the upcoming Assassin's Creed III. This artwork seemed to confirm that the game would, indeed, take place during the American Revolution, as it sported a white-clad assassin wielding a tomahawk and flintlock pistol, posing in front of an American flag.

This seemed official enough, but wasn't from the horse's mouth, and so some uncertainty still remained. That didn't last long, however, as Ubisoft, realising that the masses just couldn't wait, released the official box art. This finally and wholeheartedly confirms that the next instalment of the stealthy series will take place in the American Revolution, and it appears as though Desmond's avatar this time will be a native American, with the same taste in clothes as his ancestors.

The new setting will certainly make a refreshing change to a series that was starting to feel a little stale, and although the American Revolution isn't the first setting we'd think of when considering stealthy gameplay, it'll be interesting to see how the series embraces this turning point in world history, and, more importantly, how it will tie up Desmond's story, and the fate of mankind.
