The Dark Knight Rises

Reprising his role as Alfred in The Dark Knight Rises, Michael Caine lifts the lid a little on just how secretive director Christopher Nolan is…

Inevitably, you’re not going to get any story news here, given that the cast of The Dark Knight Rises have been well schooled in giving absolutely nothing away. Still, the Daily Mirror had a go, chatting to Sir Michael Caine about several things, including the new film.

Reporting that Caine reckons this one is the best of the Batman movies yet (although, to be fair, he’s hardly likely to say it’s the worst!), he confirmed that he couldn’t spill any details. “On Batman, you get shot if you speak about it”, he said. “When you do one of the films, it’s like signing the Official Secrets Act”.

Talking about director Christopher Nolan in particular, Caine describes him as “the most secretive guy”, In particular, “the first time he came to me for Batman he came to my house in the country on a Sunday morning.”

Caine continued: “I opened the door and he was standing there with a script. He said, ‘do you want to play the Butler?’ He stayed while I read it and took the script away. He wouldn’t trust me with it!”

It’s almost inevitable that, as Nolan and star Christian Bale move on from the Batman franchise after The Dark Knight Rises, that Sir Michael Caine will be hanging up his suit, too, and playing Alfred for the last time. Still, “this one will definitely be the best ever”, he assures us. Certainly hope so…!
