Fast Six and Fast Seven are both on the cards, as Vin Diesel confirms that two more movies in the franchise are being worked on...
Some of cinema’s most gleeful moments of the year took place in Fast Five. Unshamedly old fashioned in its approach at times, it also had some wonderful stunts, and an ability to leave even those who’d long given up on the franchise with a big grin on their faces.
The film was also a sizeable success, which led to Universal quickly greenlighting a sixth movie. But rumours persisted that there were plans afoot for more, and in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Vin Diesel has now confirmed that there’s a seventh movie in the offing, too.
“With the success of this last one, and the inclusion of so many characters, and the broadening of scope, when we were sitting down to figure out what would fit into the real estate of number six, we didn’t have enough space”, he said.
He added that “We have to pay off this story, we have to service all of these character relationships, and when we started mapping all that out it just went beyond 110 pages. The studio said, ‘You can’t fit all that story in one damn movie!’"
Hence, two damn movies!
As things stand, both a sixth and seventh film are being written, with Chris Morgan handling the work. Justin Lin is attached to direct again, presumably both new films.
Whether the films will shoot back to back, as rumoured, is unclear. But we’ll keep you posted.
