Brian De Palma's first film since 2007's Redacted is a remake of a French noir, and is set to feature the talents of Rachel McAdams and Noomi Rapace.

As patchy as his career has been, Brian De Palma has made enough genuine classics in his time to make news of the projects he’s working on reasonably exciting, and the project he’s set to start shooting next year certainly sounds interesting.

With his last film being 2007’s Redacted, the director is set to remake Alain Corneau’s 2010 thriller Crime D’Amour , however De Palma’s film will be titled Passion.

The film is a noir that follows a power struggle between a ruthless executive and her protégé. In the original, Kristen Scott-Thomas and Ludivine Sagnier starred in the lead roles, and in the remake, De Palma has lined up Rachel McAdams and Noomi Rapace.

De Palma has a script in place which he wrote himself, that follows similar lines to the original, yet adds his own twist on things, no doubt allowing for some of his trademark visual flourishes to be liberally used the film. It will certainly be interesting to see how the material is handled, particularly with criticisms of sexism being directed at a number of his previous works.

Passion is set to begin its ten week shoot in Berlin in March, with an eye for it to be ready to be distributed at the end of 2012.
