If Benicio Del Toro isn't going to play the villain in JJ Abrams' Star Trek sequel, then who is? We might just have the answer...
Earlier this week, it was revealed that the plan to recruit Benicio Del Toro to play the villain in JJ Abrams’ Star Trek sequel had failed. Del Toro and Paramount couldn’t, we’re told, come to an agreement, and thus the search was quickly on to find an actor to take his place.
That search may already be over.
Variety is reporting that Edgar Ramirez is the current front-runner to take on the role of the film’s villain. Ramirez took the title role in the TV miniseries Carlos, and has also appeared in The Bourne Ultimatum, Vantage Point, and next year’s Wrath Of The Titans.
Also in the running, though, is Jordi Molla, who appeared this year in Colombiana.
The shoot for the film starts on January 15th – basically, in a month – and that means that JJ Abrams needs to make his choice quite quickly.
As soon as the casting has been confirmed, we’ll bring you the news…
