Producer Laura Shuler Donner gives an update on the current slate of X-Men movies…
Over at Crave Online, producer Lauren Shuler Donner has been giving some updates on the assorted X-Men movies that are happening under her watch.
Firstly, on X-Men: First Class - which is heading into production in the next few weeks - she's said that she's been happy with the reaction thus far to the many casting announcements that have been made. And she's also backing director Matthew Vaughn in bringing more practical effects to the film (as he did with Kick-Ass), rather than relying on CGI religiously. "We're going to try," she said. "Yeah, we are going to try as much practical effects as possible. Then only when we have to, use CGI."
Next, attention turned to X-Men Origins: Magento, a long-planned movie that writer David Goyer had been working on. As it turns out, and as suspected, it looks like that particular film is dead. "It kind of got incorporated into this one, a lot of it," Shuler Donner said.
Finally, there's Deadpool. Ryan Reynolds has been attached to the movie for the past year, but there had been concerns that Warner Bros' desire to get a second Green Lantern movie (also starring Reynolds, of course) into production would kybosh the chances of getting Deadpool off the ground.
Nonetheless, it seems that Shuler Donner is confident the movie is still pressing ahead with him involved. "You know, Ryan is so committed to being Deadpool. He is Wade Wilson. Well, no, he's Deadpool. He is so committed to it that he worked with the writers on the script. Even though he's doing Green Lantern, he's stayed involved in that project. I'm hoping we'll get it off the ground next year," she said.
