The writers of the next Star Trek film are looking towards Batman for inspiration…
There haven't been too many details about the planned Star Trek follow-up over the past few weeks, as scripting work continues on the project. However, one of the scribes attached to the film has now given an idea of the direction the movie is heading in.
Damon Lindelof, who's been at work on the Star Trek sequel since he finished work on Lost earlier this year, told E! Online that the aim of the writers is for the new film to be what The Dark Knight was to Batman Begins.
In his words, "the bar is very, very high for the sequel. But I think we are looking at a movie like The Dark Knight which actually sort of went one step beyond Batman Begins. It was really about something and at the same time was a superhero movie. So we don't want to abandon all the things that made the first movie work - and have it sort of be fun and emotional, but we also really want the movie to thematically resonate, so we are putting on our highfalutin hats."
If it really is going to follow The Dark Knight template, then Chris Pine better get working on a gruffer voice...
